Twisha Sharma Death Case: Bar Council Suspends Lawyer Husband Samarth Singh From Practice – Obnews

The Bar Council of India has suspended advocate Samarth Singh from practising law with immediate effect in connection with the death case of his wife, actor Twisha Sharma, according to News18. The council said the allegations against him were serious and had a direct impact on the dignity and discipline expected from members of the legal profession.

Twisha Sharma, a thirty three year old actor from Noida, was found dead on May 12 at her matrimonial home in Bhopal’s Katara Hills area. Following her death, police registered a case against Samarth Singh and his mother, retired judge Giribala Singh, under charges related to dowry harassment and abetment of suicide. A Special Investigation Team has also been formed to examine the allegations.

In its interim order, the Bar Council said the accusations had the potential to affect public confidence in the justice system. The council noted that advocates are officers of the court and are expected to uphold the credibility and integrity of the legal profession.

According to News18, the council also referred to the FIR and the ongoing investigation while noting reports that Singh had allegedly been absconding and was not cooperating with investigators. Bar Council of India Chairman Manan Kumar Mishra said the licence was suspended because of the seriousness of the allegations and alleged non cooperation in the probe.

Following the suspension, Singh has been barred from appearing, pleading, filing vakalatnama, or practising before any court, tribunal, or authority in India until further orders. Disciplinary proceedings are expected to continue as the police investigation and court process move forward.

The case also saw major developments after Singh withdrew his anticipatory bail plea before the Madhya Pradesh High Court and later surrendered before a court in Jabalpur. He was taken into custody by Bhopal police. Separately, the high court ordered a second autopsy of Twisha Sharma by a specialized team from AIIMS Delhi after her family raised objections to the initial postmortem examination.

The court has also issued notice to Singh’s mother, Giribala Singh, on pleas seeking cancellation of her bail. The pleas allege that she was not cooperating with the investigation. The matter remains under legal scrutiny as authorities continue to examine the circumstances surrounding Twisha Sharma’s death.
