Severe Japan Typhoon Jangmi Crisis: The devastating storm Jangmi has once again caused massive devastation in Japan. As of Tuesday afternoon, nine people have been seriously injured due to this terrible storm. Power supply to more than 47,000 homes in Okinawa and Kagoshima prefectures has been completely cut off. Heavy rains and strong winds have completely disrupted people’s lives in many areas of Japan.

According to the report of The Japan Times, the storm is moving very fast towards the Kyushu region. As of Tuesday morning, the typhoon was about 140 kilometers away from Yakushima island off Kagoshima. It is continuously moving forward in the north-east direction at a terrifying speed of 30 kilometers per hour. The administration has made a very strict and urgent appeal to the people to stay in safe places.

Center and speed of the storm

According to the Meteorological Department, the central pressure of the storm has been recorded at 975 hectopascals. The wind speed near the center of the storm has reached 25 meters per second. Due to strong winds, there have been scary incidents of many trees falling and objects flying. Japan’s Chief Cabinet Secretary Minoru Kihara has given complete information about this terrible disaster.

Six houses in Kagoshima and Okinawa were partially damaged, he said. Apart from this, the general public is very troubled due to waterlogging on the roads and traffic stoppage. Many transport services in Japan have been completely affected due to the storm. For safety reasons, two major expressway routes comprising 15 sections have been closed with immediate effect. More than 300 flights, mainly to and from the Kyushu region, have been cancelled.

Relief and rescue operations continue

Kihara said that the government is fully engaged in relief work in collaboration with the local administration. Maritime transport has also been affected and services have been suspended on 64 shipping routes. People of storm affected areas are being continuously appealed to go to safe places.

The weather agency has issued a major warning of strong winds, storm tides and flooding in low-lying areas. Tokai and Kinki areas are expected to receive 350 mm of rainfall by Wednesday morning. Kagoshima’s Amagi town has recorded 209.5 mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours.
