Udhampur Encounter: Two terrorists killed in Udhampur, Jammu and Kashmir, search operation continues after encounter in Majalta.

Jammu. At least two terrorists have been killed by joint forces in Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir. Officials said that after receiving information about suspicious activity from Majalta in Udhampur district on Wednesday evening, joint forces launched a cordon and search operation, which was followed by an encounter (firing) with the terrorists. “Two terrorists have been killed in the subsequent exchange of fire. The operation is still going on in the area. The slain terrorists are being identified,” officials said.

This operation was started by special paratroopers of Jammu and Kashmir Police and Army. As soon as the encounter started, additional forces were immediately sent to the spot. A joint team of the Indian Army, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Special Operations Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir Police was conducting a search operation in the area.

Terror module was busted in Rajouri

The operation has been launched amid intensified security activities in the Pir Panjal region following the recent busting of an alleged overground worker (OGW) network linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) in Rajouri. On September 15, Rajouri police arrested three people in connection with an alleged terror module operating in the Pir Panjal region.

The accused have been identified as Zakir Hussain, Mohammad Azam and Mohammad Mushtaq. Security forces have intensified search operations using sniffer dogs and aerial surveillance to secure the area and trace the remaining terrorists. High vigil, checking of vehicles and tight cordon continues on strategic routes of Udhampur-Reasi ranges.

Strict monitoring of security forces in hilly areas

Security forces have paid special attention to the hilly areas of Udhampur, Reasi, Ramban, Kathua, Poonch and Rajouri districts as there have been reports of activities of hardcore Pakistani terrorists in these inaccessible areas. While these counter-terrorism operations have been continuing for more than six months, the security forces have been successful as some of the top terrorists have been neutralized in these operations. The biggest advantage of these operations is that terrorists remain on the run and are unable to find any base to plan and execute attacks against security forces, army and civilians.
