In such a situation, cancellation of trains had to be announced. Great Western Railway imposed an emergency speed limit between Didcot Parkway and London Paddington. The main reason for this was said to be ‘dangerously overheating of the tracks’.

Passengers stranded due to cancellation of trains

Passengers were stranded in many places when all GWR services from Paddington were cancelled, with journeys due to stop at Slough, Maidenhead and Twyford suddenly being canceled for no apparent reason. More than 250 passengers traveling from Faversham were trapped inside a tunnel for almost four hours. One passenger missed an international flight, while dozens of others were unable to catch their next Eurostar train to Paris.

Water supply to homes stopped in many states
