UNITED SIKHS' Online Punjabi Conversation Classes have reached more than 1,000 students across two Sikh educational institutions in Pakistan, marking a significant effort to preserve the Punjabi language and strengthen Sikh cultural heritage among younger generations.

The initiative was launched in November 2021 at Guru Angad Dev Ji Khalsa Dharmic School in Peshawar, initially enrolling 40 students from underserved Sikh communities. The program was established with a focus on Punjabi language preservation, Sikh identity and education.

Students receive instruction in Punjabi conversation, Gurmukhi reading and writing, Gurbani, Sikh history and Sikh values. The program combines live online classes with monthly learning activities, assignments and interactive conversation sessions designed to improve students' speaking, reading, writing and comprehension skills.

More than 500 students at the Peshawar school have completed Punjabi conversation training since the program began.

Following the initiative's progress in Peshawar, UNITED SIKHS expanded the program to Punja Sahib Khalsa Dharmic School in Hasan Abdal. Classes are now being conducted at both institutions, with the combined number of students taught and trained in Punjabi conversation, reading and writing, Gurbani and Sikh history exceeding 1,000.

The organization said the program reflects the role of education and community participation in maintaining linguistic and cultural connections among young Sikhs. It stressed that language remains an important component of identity and heritage and that continued opportunities for children to learn and use Punjabi are essential for its preservation.

UNITED SIKHS is seeking support from individuals, families, community members, philanthropists, organizations and Sikh institutions to sustain the online classes.

According to the organization, support for the program helps provide Punjabi teachers, online classes, learning materials, instruction in reading and writing, Gurbani and Sikh values, and lessons on Sikh history and culture.

The organization has appealed to supporters to sponsor classes or individual students, saying such assistance would help sustain Punjabi-language education and enable children to maintain a connection with their Sikh heritage.
