New Delhi. The discussion regarding the 8th Pay Commission is intense among the central employees. The most interest is about what the basic salary of employees of different pay levels can be after the implementation of the new pay structure. Many estimates are coming out regarding the possible salary especially for Level-3 employees.
However, the final recommendations and fitment factors of the 8th Pay Commission have not been officially decided yet. Therefore, the calculation of possible salary should be seen as an estimate only. Here, considering the possible fitment factor of 1.92 as the basis, let us understand the estimate of basic pay of Level-3.
What is the basic salary of Level-3 now?
The starting basic pay of Level-3 in the pay matrix of the 7th Pay Commission is ₹21,700. Apart from the basic pay, the actual monthly income of the employees also includes Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), Traveling Allowance (TA) and other applicable allowances. Once the 8th Pay Commission is implemented, the fitment factor may play an important role in determining the new basic salary.
How much benefit is there from 1.92 fitment factor?
For example, if a fitment factor of 1.92 is applied, the existing starting basic pay of Level 3 of ₹21,700 multiplied by 1.92 comes to the new basic pay of approximately ₹41,664. That is, according to this estimate, the basic salary of a Level-3 employee may increase from ₹ 21,700 to approximately ₹ 41,664.
Why is the fitment factor so important?
Fitment factor is the multiplier based on which the existing basic pay is adjusted to the new pay structure. A fitment factor of 2.57 was implemented in the 7th Pay Commission. Now estimates are being made regarding different fitment factors for the 8th Pay Commission. Figures like 1.92, 2.08 and 2.86 have been coming up in some discussions.
Total salary can increase due to HRA and TA
The total monthly income of an employee does not depend only on the basic pay. HRA, TA and other admissible allowances along with basic pay also affect the total salary. Therefore, the potential basic pay of ₹ 41,664 does not mean that this will be the total monthly salary of the employee. The amount of HRA may vary depending on the city of posting of the employee and the applicable rules. Similarly, traveling allowance also depends on the level of the employee and related rules.
