Lucknow. A new stir has started regarding UP Panchayat Elections. After Allahabad High Court directed to conduct three-tier Panchayat elections within three months, now Rashtriya Panchayat Raj Gram Pradhan Sangathan is preparing to challenge this decision in the Supreme Court. National President of the organization, Dr. Akhilesh Singh says that in view of backward class reservation, irregularities in the voter list and other processes, it will not be easy to conduct Panchayat elections in three months. Dr. Akhilesh Singh said that the village head organization will challenge the decision of the High Court in the Supreme Court. According to him, many important processes are yet to be completed before holding Panchayat elections. Important among these are assessment of backward class reservation and removal of discrepancies in the voter list. The organization says that it will be difficult to conduct elections without completing these processes. On this basis, the organization is preparing to challenge the court order.
Questions raised regarding OBC reservation
According to Dr. Akhilesh Singh, the Backward Classes Commission constituted by the Uttar Pradesh Government has not yet completed the assessment of district-wise reservation. He claimed that the Commission has been able to visit only 40 districts so far. The organization argues that holding the village head elections without completing the process of OBC reservation would be contempt of the Supreme Court's decision. For this reason, the organization is talking about making this issue the main basis of its legal challenge.

Expressing fear of delay in Panchayat elections, the organization has also raised the issue of irregularities in the voter list. Dr. Akhilesh Singh claims that there is a difference of about 3 crore 94 lakh voters in the voter lists prepared by the State Election Commission and the Election Commission of India. According to him, the number of voters in the list of the State Election Commission is more. Giving the example of the voter list of Latifpur Gram Panchayat of Lucknow, he said that the name of Rashmi Singh was there. According to Dr. Singh, Rashmi Singh is a councilor and executive member of Lucknow Municipal Corporation. He raised the question as to how the name of a Municipal Councilor can be included in the voter list of the Gram Panchayat. The organization says that it is necessary to remove discrepancies in the voter list before the elections.
Census, board exam and SIR also become a challenge
Dr. Akhilesh Singh also mentioned the process of census, board examinations and special intensive revision of voter list i.e. SIR regarding the preparations for Panchayat elections. He said that assembly elections are also to be held on time. In such a situation, how will the government and the State Election Commission be able to conduct Panchayat elections within three months? The organization believes that due to all these processes the Panchayat elections may be delayed. On this basis, he has raised questions on the possibility of elections being held before April 2027.
