Mahindra has been working on its upcoming SUV based on the Vision S concept for over a year now. We have seen multiple videos and test mule images of the Vision S, and it was pretty clear that Mahindra is going for a design that looks closer to the concept they showcased a year ago. We have now come across a new video where we get to see the tail lamps of the production version of the Mahindra Vision S. It looks like the Mahindra Vision S will be coming with connected tail lamps.
The video has been shared by ViTaAutos on its YouTube channel. The video was actually recorded at night, and in this video, we see a clear view of the LED tail lamps that the Mahindra Vision S would come with.
This is probably the first time we have seen a test mule with production-ready tail lamps. The Vision S will come with a vertically stacked LED tail lamp design with integrated LED turn indicators. From the top of the tail lamps, there is an LED bar that extends and runs across the width of the vehicle. We do see the spare wheel mounted on the tailgate.
It is not clear whether Mahindra is planning for a connecting LED bar like we saw on the XUV 3XO or whether it will simply be an extension that ends behind the spare wheel. The Mahindra Vision S in the video here continues to retain the boxy and rugged exterior design. It is not clear whether the spare wheel seen here in the video is an alloy or a steel rim.
The Mahindra Vision S is based on the new NU-IQ platform. It is an all-new modular, multi-energy monocoque architecture developed by Mahindra & Mahindra to support both internal combustion engines (ICE) and electric powertrains. It would mark the beginning of Mahindra’s next generation of SUVs that are not just for the Indian but also the international market. The architecture can support compact and sub-compact SUVs measuring between 3,990 mm and 4,320 mm in length. The Vision S seen here is a sub-4-metre SUV.
From the spy videos, we already know that the Vision S will be offered with a large and boxy front grille with 7-shaped LED headlamps with integrated LED DRLs and turn indicators. The SUV would also come with chunky and muscular-looking front bumper and wheel-arch claddings.
As this is a modern-day SUV, Mahindra is not going to shy away from offering features. We expect the SUV to come with features such as a panoramic sunroof, Level 2 ADAS, leatherette upholstery, a large touchscreen infotainment system, a 360-degree camera, seat ventilation, automatic climate control, and more.
The NU-IQ platform supports both FWD and AWD, and there are reports that Mahindra will be offering the SUV with AWD as an option in select variants. This might actually help Mahindra justify the SUV tag for the Vision S when compared to its rivals. The Vision S is expected to be offered with 1.2-litre turbo-petrol and 1.5-litre turbo-diesel engine options. Both petrol and diesel engines are likely to come with manual and automatic transmission options.
