New Delhi: Protests were seen from Delhi to Uttar Pradesh on Sunday on the issue of reservation. Hundreds of protesters gathered in Connaught Place in the capital Delhi, after which the police detained many people. The protesters were protesting against the reservation policy, UGC Equity Regulation 2026 and the roster system. In view of the situation, security was increased in many areas.
Protestors reached the Outer Circle of Delhi's busy Connaught Place in large numbers. The police took action calling this demonstration without permission and removed many people from the spot and detained them. Later it came to light that he was taken away from the protest site and left. A crowd of youth had also reached Jantar Mantar on Sunday. The police did not allow them to gather at one place. According to officials, permission was not given for the demonstration at Shah Auditorium, Connaught Place and other public places.
Crowd gathered through social media
Social media campaign is also being said to be the reason behind the crowd that reached Connaught Place. According to the information, a page named RHA and its supporters on Instagram had launched campaigns like 'Chalo Delhi' and 'CP March' for the last few days. Through this, an appeal was made to the people to reach Delhi and join the protest.
Protestors took to the streets in Lucknow too
Protests were also seen in Lucknow regarding issues like reservation, GC and SC-ST Act. People associated with Savarna Morcha demonstrated at 1090 intersection of Gomtinagar. After this, the protesters moved towards the Baikunth Dham cremation ground and took out a symbolic funeral procession of the upper caste MPs and MLAs. The protesters were holding placards with messages like 'constitutional untouchable'. During this, slogans demanding withdrawal of UGC rules were also raised.
'Reservation cannot be abolished'
Uttar Pradesh's Panchayati Raj Minister and SubhaSP President Omprakash Rajbhar rejected the discussions of ending reservation. He said that some people are trying to spread confusion. According to Rajbhar, Baba Saheb Bhimrao Ambedkar had made the provision of reservation to connect the deprived classes with the mainstream of the society.
Mayawati called the demand for economic reservation unfair
BSP chief Mayawati opposed the demand for reservation on economic grounds. He said through a social media post that it is not appropriate to raise the demand for implementing reservation on economic basis during the protest against reservation at Jantar Mantar. He also targeted Congress on this issue.
