New Delhi. A commotion broke out during a press conference held at the Delhi residence of independent MP Rajesh Ranjan “Pappu” Yadav on Saturday when an unidentified man allegedly threw a slipper at him. Immediately after the incident, supporters present there caught hold of the accused and beat him up. Police officers on the scene later intervened and pulled him out of the crowd. A video of the incident is rapidly going viral on social media.
It is seen in the viral video that during the press conference, a person tells Pappu Yadav that wearing saffron clothes, he placed the idol of Lord Ram at the feet of Ayodhya MP Avghesh Pratap, this is not right. After this, the person threw his slipper at Pappu Yadav. In the video, the workers present there are seen beating him from all sides with slaps and punches. During this, his shirt also gets torn. During this, in the video, a policeman is seen trying to intervene and take him out of the crowd safely. However, by the time he was taken out, Pappu Yadav’s supporters had beaten him badly.
In the video, Pappu Yadav is also seen grabbing another man and taking him away amid the chaos. The identity of the person who threw the slipper has not yet been revealed.
This incident comes amid a controversy surrounding Pappu Yadav’s protest in Parliament over the theft of Ram Mandir offerings. On Friday, opposition MPs staged a symbolic protest outside Parliament. Pappu Yadav arrived dressed as a priest, carrying a donation box, while Congress MP Rahul Gandhi symbolically placed a donation in it. Following this, opposition MPs symbolically beat Pappu Yadav, pretending to be “caught stealing.”
Following this demonstration, protests erupted in several cities across Uttar Pradesh. In Varanasi, based on a complaint by Jagadguru Balak Das, the head of the Patalpuri Math, an FIR was filed against Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, Samajwadi Party MP Awadhesh Prasad, and independent MP Pappu Yadav. Meanwhile, in Lucknow, the Sanatan Raksha Sanghatana organized a symbolic funeral procession for Pappu Yadav and protested against him. In Mathura, saints and sages demanded the cancellation of Rahul Gandhi and Pappu Yadav’s parliamentary membership.
