WASHINGTON — President Donald J. Trump said the United States is canceling an attack on Iran because of progress in negotiations.
Trump said Saturday night, local time, that the United States was fully prepared to take action against Iran, but he had accepted the request of Iran and other Middle Eastern countries to “hold off any attacks because a framework agreement has been agreed upon.”
President Trump made the announcement on his Twitter account, which was confirmed by US news channel CNN. Trump said the proposed agreement would include the immediate reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and the elimination of Iran’s nuclear threat.
He said Israel supports him in his decision to halt the attacks. The White House declined to comment immediately.
Donald J. Trump wrote on Truth Social, “The United States is fully prepared to take action against Iran. Our military strength and capability are at a level not seen since World War II.”
Despite this, Iran and other countries in the Middle East have asked us to halt any attacks, as the framework of a deal has been agreed upon.
This agreement would include the immediate and complete opening of the Strait of Hormuz and the elimination of Iran’s nuclear threat.
“In response to this request, I have decided to cancel the attack for the future benefit of the world and the existence of a successful and prosperous Iran, provided a settlement can be reached soon. Israel joins me in this commitment.”
