US Foreign Minister meets PM Modi: Many issues including bilateral relations discussed, invited to visit White House

New Delhi. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday. Rubio discussed bilateral relations, strategic cooperation, trade and regional security issues with PM Modi. During this, Rubio also invited the PM to visit the White House.

The PM wrote, “It was my pleasure to welcome US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. We discussed the continued progress in the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership and issues related to regional and global peace and security. India and the United States will continue to work together for global well-being.”

The US Secretary of State, who came to India on a four-day visit, was also joined by Ambassador Sergio Gore of the US Embassy in New Delhi. He also expressed the importance of the meeting through social media posts. Gore said, “Rubio, on behalf of President Donald Trump, has invited Prime Minister Modi to visit the White House in the near future!”

In another post, he said, “I joined Secretary of State Rubio in meeting with Prime Minister Modi. We had meaningful discussions on ways to deepen US-India cooperation in security, trade, and critical technologies. These are areas that strengthen both nations and advance the vision of a free and open Indo-Pacific region. India is a vitally important partner of the United States!”

Marco Rubio started his India tour on Saturday from Kolkata. Here he also visited the ‘Missionaries of Charity’, to which Gore remarked that it is moments like these that remind us that the US-India partnership is not only based on strong policies, but also on shared values ​​and a spirit of selfless service.

This is Rubio’s first visit to India after assuming office last year. He landed in the city on Saturday morning, where he was duly welcomed by senior officials. After this he will attend the meeting of Quad Foreign Ministers in New Delhi on Tuesday. India, United States of America, Australia and Japan are part of this group. Apart from US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong and Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi will be included in this.
