Electricity bills will increase this time

Bhopal. Once again there is going to be additional burden on the pockets of electricity consumers of Madhya Pradesh. Madhya Pradesh Power Management Company has increased the rates of Fuel and Power Purchase Adjustment Surcharge (FPPAS). For the next one month from September 24, 2026, this surcharge has been increased from 4.59 percent to 5.06 percent.
After this increase, there will be an additional burden of about four paise on the per unit cost of electricity. This surcharge will not only affect domestic consumers but also consumers of other categories of electricity. Since this surcharge is levied on the basis of energy charge and is added separately to the bill, consumers will clearly see its increased impact in their electricity bills after the month of September.
Why does this surcharge increase and decrease?
FPPAS is basically imposed to compensate for the variation in the actual cost of fuel and power purchase used in power generation. It is calculated every month as per the rules of Madhya Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission. This surcharge also keeps going up and down as the cost increases or decreases. It is mandatory for the distribution companies to make public the information regarding its calculation and recovery and clearly mention it separately in the electricity bill.
