Kanpur. Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad welcomes the decision of the Uttar Pradesh Cabinet to increase the monthly stipend of MBBS and BDS interns from ₹ 12,000 to ₹ 25,000 in the state medical colleges, institutes and medical universities of the state. This decision is an important step towards accepting the long standing and just demand of the medical students and interns of the state.
ABVP continuously raised the issue with the government and administration regarding the demand for respectable stipend for medical interns and had earlier submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Chief Minister and Medical Education Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Shri Brajesh Pathak, demanding increase in the stipend.
Medical interns are an important link in the health system. During internship, they have to perform long duty hours, night and emergency duties, constant care of patients and medical responsibilities. Due to limited financial resources during this crucial period of training, many interns face difficulties in managing daily life, transportation, food and other essential expenses.
The issue of disparity in the stipend received by interns in the state in comparison to central institutions and other states was also raised prominently by ABVP. In such a situation, the increase in stipend is an important step towards providing necessary financial support as per their hard work and responsibilities.
Shri Abhay Pratap Singh, National Minister, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, said, “The medical internship period is both learning and extremely challenging for the young doctors. Between long duty hours, frequent night and emergency duties, dealing with critical patients and hospital responsibilities, interns have to manage their studies and personal needs.
Due to limited stipend, especially students doing internship in other cities face difficulty in meeting accommodation, food, transportation and other necessary expenses. In such a situation, increasing the stipend from ₹ 12,000 to ₹ 25,000 is a sensitive decision taken considering their hard work, responsibilities and difficult circumstances. ABVP has been raising these problems with the government for a long time and we are happy that the government has taken a positive decision on this important demand.”
