Uttarakhand Director General of Police Deepam Seth hoisted the national flag in Dehradun on August 15, 2026, marking Independence Day, and called on all citizens to protect the integrity of the nation.
During the ceremony at the Police Headquarters, DGP Seth administered the oath of national unity to attendees. He subsequently awarded the Director General of Police Commendation Disc ‘Gold’, DGP Commendation Disc ‘Silver’, and DGP Commendation Certificates to selected police personnel, congratulating all recipients.
Addressing the gathering, DGP Seth stated, “Independence Day provides an opportunity to pay heartfelt tribute to the great freedom fighters, brave heroes of the freedom struggle and immortal martyrs whose sacrifice, courage and dedication made it possible for people to live as citizens of a free nation.” He emphasized that it is the “collective responsibility of everyone to protect the unity and integrity of the nation, the Constitution and democratic values.” He added that in fulfilling this responsibility, police personnel have consistently been at the forefront.
The DGP expressed pride in Uttarakhand Police’s professional competence and efficiency. He highlighted the force’s role in providing security during the Prime Minister’s roadshow and the successful organization of the five-day Nyaya Sanhita exhibition, which was held in the presence of the Union Home Minister.
He further noted that the police effectively managed security and traffic for the Char Dham Yatra and the Kanwar Mela, events that attracted millions of devotees, maintaining a balance between security, service and faith through coordinated efforts.
In the field of cybercrime management, Uttarakhand Police ranked among the top five states during the ‘Pragati’ review meeting. The force received the Institutional Performance Award for State Police from the Government of India for outstanding passport verification performance and earned commendations at the BRICS Summit for the Silkyara Tunnel and Dharali-Harsil rescue models, according to DGP Seth.
He also highlighted the achievements of Uttarakhand Police athletes, who earned national and international recognition through their performances.
Regarding welfare and motivation, the DGP said over 950 officers and personnel had received timely promotions in the past year.
He acknowledged the contributions of numerous unsung heroes including those deployed at barricades, women police personnel serving away from their families, drivers, traffic officers, wireless operators, cyber experts and all police employees working in the field, describing them as the “real strength” of the Uttarakhand Police.
DGP Seth expressed his appreciation for their hard work, discipline and dedication, and voiced confidence that all police personnel would continue to serve the people of Uttarakhand with dedication, courage and a strong sense of duty, thereby further strengthening peace, security and law and order throughout the state.
