Uttarakhand Administration on Alert: Secretary Disaster Management and Rehabilitation Vinod Kumar Suman remained present at the State Emergency Operation Center throughout the day on Saturday and continuously reviewed the ongoing rain situation in the state. He held a meeting with officials of various districts of the state and took information regarding the situation there, rainfall and possible challenges and gave necessary guidelines. He said that the situation in the state is being continuously monitored from the State Emergency Operation Center and continuous feedback is being taken from the districts.
Chief Minister took report, gave instructions for vigilance
The Secretary further said that an update has also been taken by Honorable Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami regarding the rain situation and preparations in the state. As per the instructions of the Chief Minister, all the districts and related departments have been asked to work with full vigilance. He said that all the teams and officers in the field are on alert mode and necessary resources have been kept ready for quick action in case of any emergency.
Strict surveillance on sensitive areas
Secretary Disaster Management instructed the District Magistrates and concerned officials to keep special vigil on sensitive areas, landslide prone sites, rivers and waterlogged areas. Keeping the District Emergency Operation Centers active, instructions have been given to immediately provide information about any incident to the State Emergency Operation Center and to immediately dispatch relief and rescue teams if necessary.
Suman said that in view of the warning issued by the Meteorological Department for September 27, all the districts should take special caution. On September 27, red alert has been issued in Dehradun, Tehri Garhwal, Pauri Garhwal, and orange alert has been issued for all the remaining districts.
Appeal to stay away from rivers and streams
The Disaster Management Secretary directed the officials to prevent unnecessary movement around rivers, drains and ponds during the rains and to provide continuous information regarding weather conditions to the local people and travelers. Also, Police, SDRF, Health, Public Works Department, Electricity, Drinking Water and other related departments should work with mutual coordination.
Suman said that in the current circumstances all officers and field teams should be completely alert. In any emergency situation, quick response and relief work will be the top priority. The situation in the state is being continuously monitored by the State Emergency Operation Center.
