The Meteorological Department has given news of great relief for the local residents and Chardham pilgrims who are struggling with the continuous torrential rains and resulting landslides in the mountainous and plain areas of Uttarakhand. According to the latest forecast released by the Meteorological Centre, Dehradun (IMD), there has been a clear decline in monsoon activities in the state. There is no red or orange alert of any type of heavy or very heavy rain in the state till September 19. Due to the shift of monsoon trough and reduction in the intensity of western disturbance, there will be a play of sun and shade in the mountains and the weather will remain normal and dry in most of the districts. Chances of light rain in Pithoragarh, Chamoli and border districts: According to the Meteorological Department, even though the torrential rains have stopped, there will be a possibility of light to moderate rain due to local moisture in the high altitude hilly districts: Pithoragarh and Bageshwar: One or two rounds of light showers with thunder and lightning may occur in some parts of the border districts Pithoragarh and Bageshwar. There is no warning of heavy rain here. Chamoli and Rudraprayag: The high altitude areas associated with Badrinath and Kedarnath Dham will remain partly cloudy and sporadic drizzle may be seen in the afternoon. Uttarkashi: The weather will remain clear most of the time on the Gangotri-Yamunotri route, although cloud movement will continue at some places. How will the weather be in Dehradun, Haridwar and plains districts? The weather pattern will remain largely pleasant in the plains of Haridwar, Udham Singh Nagar and Pauri Garhwal including the state capital Dehradun: Dehradun: The sky will be partly to mainly cloudy in Doon Valley. There may be a slight increase in humidity due to bright sunshine during the day, while there is a possibility of light showers in one or two spells during the evening or night. Temperature conditions: The maximum temperature in Dehradun is expected to remain between 31°C to 33°C and the minimum temperature is expected to remain around 23°C to 24°C. Haridwar and Terai region: There is little chance of rain in the plains, due to which the water level of Ganga and its tributaries is gradually decreasing. Situation on the Chardham Yatra route: Relief to the passengers and administration Relief is being felt on the Chardham Yatra routes due to the break in heavy rains: Restoration of roads: On the Rishikesh-Badrinath National Highway (NH-58) and Rishikesh-Kedarnath road, where traffic was disrupted earlier due to landslides, the work of removing debris and smoothening the roads has gained momentum. Smooth travel: Clear weather is also helping helicopter services to Kedarnath to operate without any major disruption. Appeal for caution: Public Works Department (PWD) and disaster management system have clarified that even if there is no alert of heavy rain, there is still a risk of shooting stones on the hill slopes, hence drivers should be careful at sensitive turns. Based on the condition of the new weather system coming from the Bay of Bengal after September 19, the departure of monsoon in the state and the new trend of further rainfall will be decided.
