The Indian T20 squad for the Ireland-England tour and Asian Games was announced on Saturday (June 6). The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has appointed Shreyas Iyer as the new T20 captain. Whereas 15 year old Vaibhav Suryavanshi has entered Team India. Vaibhav has become the youngest cricketer to be selected in the Indian team. He broke Sachin Tendulkar’s years old record. Sachin was selected in the Indian team at the age of 16.
Vaibhav’s selection in Team India was considered certain. He won the Orange Cap in IPL 2026 by scoring 776 runs at an explosive strike rate of 237.30. During this period he scored one century and five half-centuries. Vaibhav caught the attention of the cricket world by playing innings of 97 and 96 runs in the playoffs. BCCI Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar praised him profusely after including him in the team. Agarkar was impressed by the ability of this young player from Bihar to change the course of the match.

What did Agarkar say in praise of Vaibhav?
“We have seen what he can do,” Agarkar said. Even in the IPL playoffs, we saw that he almost single-handedly took his team forward. He further said, ‘It is highly commendable for a young player to bat in such a high-pressure environment and show the ability to turn the tide of the match. He can definitely be a game changer.
Why is Shreyas the captain?
Suryakumar Yadav, who won the T20 World Cup, has been dropped from the team and Shreyas has been given the responsibility of captaincy. Shreyas has not played any T20 International match for the last two and a half years and now he has been directly made the captain of the team. On Shreyas being made the captain, Agarkar said that he has proved himself as a leader in IPL. Therefore the command has been given in his hands.
Agarkar said, ‘Shreyas has proved himself as a captain. Apart from leading KKR to the title, he also played two consecutive successful seasons for Punjab Kings. He was never out of the team’s circle, but was not able to make a place due to the combination.
