ZIM vs IND 1st T20I: Young Indian fast bowler Mayank Yadav got off to a blistering start in the first T20I between India and Zimbabwe. He bowled the first ball of the match at a speed of 149 kph, dismissing Zimbabwe opener Bryan Bennett for a duck.
In the first T20 match between India and Zimbabwe being played at the Harare Sports Club on Thursday (July 23), young fast bowler Mayank Yadav displayed such speed that he took a wicket with the very first ball of the match. Indian captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and decided to bowl first, and Mayank Yadav was handed the new ball.
Mayank bowled his first ball at a hard length, 149 kph, on the line of off stump. The ball came in and then straightened slightly, completely catching Zimbabwe opener Bryan Bennett off guard. He tried to block it with his bat, but the ball took the edge and landed in the gloves of wicketkeeper Ishan Kishan.
However, the on-field umpire turned down India’s appeal. Ishan Kishan was then convinced that the ball had hit the bat. He persuaded captain Shreyas Iyer to take a DRS. India took the review, and Ultra-Edge clearly showed the ball had taken the edge of the bat. The umpire was forced to reverse his decision, and Brian Bennett was dismissed for a duck.

With this wicket, Mayank Yadav etched his name in the record books. He became only the third Indian bowler to take a wicket with the first ball of a T20 International match. Previously, Arshdeep Singh and Hardik Pandya have achieved this feat.
Arshdeep Singh took a wicket with the first ball of the T20 World Cup 2024 match against the USA in New York. Hardik Pandya achieved this feat by dismissing Sam Ayub with the first ball of the match against Pakistan in Dubai in the Asia Cup 2025. Now, Mayank Yadav has also joined this exclusive Indian club.
