Green SMthe electric taxi service backed by Vietnam’s Vingroupofficially entered India’s rapidly growing ride-hailing market on Friday with the launch of its all-electric fleet in Delhi-NCRmarking the company’s first major step into one of the world’s largest mobility markets.
The company has positioned itself in the premium ride-hailing segmentaiming to differentiate itself from existing operators by offering an all-electric transportation experience. Green SM said it plans to expand beyond the national capital region and enter other major metropolitan cities in the coming phases of its India strategy.
The launch comes at a time when India’s mobility sector is witnessing increasing competition, with operators exploring electric vehicles, premium services, and technology-driven transportation solutions.
Green SM targets premium mobility segment
Speaking on the sidelines of the launch event, Green SM India CEO Bach Tuan Anh said the company sees a clear opportunity in the premium segment of India’s ride-hailing ecosystem.
According to Anh, India’s mobility market is highly diversified, with multiple players catering to different customer needs and price points. He said the company identified a gap in the premium electric mobility category, particularly in urban markets such as Delhi-NCR.
“When you look at the entire gamut of how the mobility ecosystem is built in India, we could see that in a city like Delhi-NCR, there is always space for a niche segment, a premium segment. So, we have identified that gap,” Anh said.
Delhi-NCR chosen as launch market
Green SM selected Delhi-NCR for its India debut, citing the region’s large commuter base, growing adoption of electric vehicles, and increasing demand for alternative mobility solutions.
The company has introduced an all-electric fleetaligning its India operations with its broader focus on sustainable transportation. The launch also reflects growing interest among international mobility firms in India’s expanding electric vehicle ecosystem.
Industry observers have noted that Delhi-NCR remains one of the country’s most competitive ride-hailing markets, making it a strategic location for new entrants.
Expansion plans beyond the national capital
While beginning operations in Delhi-NCR, Green SM has already outlined plans to expand into other metropolitan cities across India.
Company officials said additional markets will be evaluated as operations scale up and customer demand grows. The expansion strategy is expected to focus on major urban centres where electric mobility infrastructure and ride-hailing demand are already well established.
The company has not yet announced specific timelines or cities for its next phase of expansion.
Growing competition in India’s ride-hailing sector
Green SM’s entry adds another player to India’s increasingly competitive mobility landscape. The market has seen rapid growth in recent years as consumers seek convenient transportation options and governments encourage cleaner mobility solutions.
Electric vehicles have become a key area of focus for both established operators and new entrants as cities work toward reducing emissions and promoting sustainable transport alternatives.
The launch also highlights the growing role of international companies in India’s evolving mobility ecosystem.
What happens next?
With operations now underway in Delhi-NCR, attention will shift to customer adoption, fleet expansion, and Green SM’s ability to establish itself in the premium ride-hailing segment.
The company’s progress in the coming months will be closely watched as it competes in one of the world’s fastest-growing mobility markets while pursuing broader expansion plans across India’s major metropolitan regions.
