Vigilance Bureau in action mode, senior assistant caught red handed taking bribe of Rs 5 thousand

Punjab Vigilance Bureau: The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB), as part of its ongoing drive against corruption in the state, has caught Senior Assistant Satnam Singh, posted in the Excise Department, Jalandhar, red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000.

Giving this information today, an official spokesperson of the state VB said that the said accused has been arrested on the basis of the complaint of a resident of Nagara village of Phillaur tehsil of Jalandhar district. He said that the complainant runs a restaurant and had applied online for L-5B (retail sale of draft beer/wine) license for his restaurant.

The work was related to issuing license

He said that after processing the application, the Collector-cum-Deputy Commissioner (Excise), Jalandhar Zone directed the concerned officers to obtain the necessary report and ‘No Objection Certificate’ (NOC) for the proposed license. During the process, the accused Senior Assistant is alleged to have demanded and received a bribe of ₹5,000 from a complainant for work related to issuance of L-5B (Retail Sale of Draft Beer/Wine) license. The complainant recorded the conversation regarding demand for bribe.

Arrested red handed while taking bribe

Refusing to pay the illegal bribe, the complainant approached VB Range Jalandhar. Acting on his complaint, the VB team laid a trap and arrested the accused senior assistant red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 from the complainant in the presence of two government witnesses. Bribe notes were recovered from him.

Further investigation continues in the case

In this matter, a case has been registered against the accused under Prevention of Corruption Act at VB Police Station, Jalandhar and further investigation of the case is underway.
