‘Vijay’ era begins in Tamil Nadu, first session of assembly will start from Monday

Tamilnadu news: After assuming power in Tamil Nadu, the new government of Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay is going to start its first innings in the Assembly. The first meeting of the 17th Assembly has been called at 9:30 am on Monday at the Secretariat, where all the newly elected MLAs will take the oath of allegiance to the Constitution. There is a lot of political activity in Chennai regarding this historic session and tight security arrangements have been made around the Secretariat so that the proceedings can be conducted without any hindrance. The first session of the Tamil Nadu Assembly is starting from Monday in which all the new MLAs will take oath and the Speaker will be elected the next day. Actor-turned-politician Vijay has created history by winning 108 seats with his party TVK and has now taken charge of the government. DMK leader Udhayanidhi Stalin has been chosen as the leader of the opposition, who will pose the main challenge to the new government in the House.

MV Karuppaiah becomes acting president

TVK leader MV Karuppaiah has been appointed the acting Speaker of the Tamil Nadu Assembly. He took oath before Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar in the presence of Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay on Sunday. Karuppaiah, who was elected MLA from Sholavandan seat, will now take up the responsibility of administering oath to all the new members of the Assembly.

Actor-turned-politician C Joseph Vijay has been sworn in as the 13th Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu after his historic victory. The Governor administered the oath of office to Vijay and nine ministers of his cabinet at a grand ceremony held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai. After assuming charge, Vijay reached Periyar Memorial and also paid tribute to him.

In the 2026 assembly elections, TVK has performed brilliantly and won 108 seats. In its very first election, the party has shaken the decades-old political dominance of DMK and AIADMK. The rise of Vijay, popularly known as ‘Thalapathy’, is now being compared with the era of former Chief Minister MG Ramachandran.

Vijay will keep Perambur seat with himself

Before becoming the Chief Minister, Vijay has decided to resign from Tiruchirappalli East Assembly seat. According to the Assembly Secretariat, he has retained the Perambur seat and will represent this constituency in the House. For this, he has also submitted an official letter to the Principal Secretary of the Assembly.

Rahul Gandhi’s presence and new resolution

Tamilnadu news: Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi also attended Vijay’s swearing-in ceremony, which is also giving national signals of this change. In his first address, Vijay said that a new era of secularism and social justice would now begin in Tamil Nadu. He thanked the people for giving a new direction of development to the state.
