Viral video of AK-47 fired in student protest: SIT member suspended in Siwan, departmental inquiry started, know the whole matter

Siwan. The police headquarters has taken major action after the video of alleged AK-47 firing in Siwan during the student movement in Bihar over the NEET paper leak issue went viral. Special Investigation Team (SIT) member Abhishek Patel, seen in the viral video, has been suspended with immediate effect. Besides, a departmental inquiry into the entire matter has also been started.

According to the information, during the Bihar Bandh on July 25, a tense situation had arisen between student organizations and the police at Siwan district headquarters. The bandh was organized in protest against the NEET paper leak, in which various student organizations and leftist organizations took part.

Meanwhile, a video went viral on social media, in which Abhishek Patel is seen moving forward with an AK-47 in the direction of the protesters and firing several rounds. After the video surfaced, the matter created a stir in political and administrative circles.

Taking cognizance of the video, the police headquarters has suspended the concerned officer and ordered a departmental inquiry. Officials say that the authenticity of the video, the circumstances of the firing and the procedure adopted by the police are being thoroughly investigated. Further departmental and legal action will be taken based on the investigation report.

During the Bihar Bandh, protests turned violent in many districts including Patna, Saran, Siwan, Aurangabad and Bhagalpur, where clashes took place between police and protesters. Whereas, the protests in Samastipur, Nawada and Nalanda remained relatively peaceful. Additional police forces were deployed in several districts to maintain law and order.

This incident has also taken a political color. Leader of Opposition in Bihar Assembly, Tejashwi Yadav, while sharing a viral video on social media platform ‘X’, alleged that the police opened fire with AK-47 on the students protesting in Siwan. He demanded an impartial investigation into the incident and accountability from the government.

It is noteworthy that during the demonstration, internet service in Siwan was also temporarily stopped as a precautionary measure. After the viral video, questions were continuously being raised on the working style of the police. Now with the suspension of the officer concerned, it has become clear that the Police Headquarters will take this entire matter seriously and take further action on the basis of investigation.
