Volkswagen Virtus Owner Drives At 200 Kph On Public Roads And Films Reel, Arrested [Video]

With the advent of social media, we have seen people doing crazy things for online fame and recognition. Sometimes, content shared on social media can also serve as strong evidence for unearthing violations or offences. One such case has now surfaced in Hyderabad. Narsingi Police has arrested a 32-year-old man in Cyberabad for allegedly driving his Volkswagen Virtus GT at 200 kph on public roads, filming it and later sharing the video on Instagram.

According to reports, this incident took place on May 10, 2026 and the accused was identified as Kothapalli Yashwanth Reddy. He is a private company employee and a resident of Alkapur Township in Puppalaguda, Rangareddy district. At around 10:30 am on Sunday (May 10th), he took his newly-purchased Volkswagen Virtus GT on a high-speed road trip. He drove along the Outer Ring Road (ORR) and covered 120km in an hour!

The high-speed run was filmed using a head-mounted action camera and the video was later shared online. The video went viral in no time, amassing likes and shares and eventually leading to the person getting booked.

In the video, we can see the Virtus entering the ORR. The trip has been set to zero. The driver says on camera that the aim is to do a round trip- Narsingi to Narsingi. Moments later, we see the car being driven at three-digit speeds, through the middle lane. We see the speed climbing all the way up to 203 kph.

This acceleration takes time. By then, the vehicle is seen changing lanes and overtaking several other vehicles. Thankfully, there are very few vehicles around, at this time. The driver seems to be in a leisurely mood and can be heard singing along and vibing to music, while the car is still doing dangerous speeds.

The Virtus GT comes with a 1.5L turbocharged petrol engine and a 7-speed DSG automatic transmission. The setup makes 148 hp and 250 Nm. The car is quick to accelerate and is often loved by enthusiasts.

Reddy says on camera that it was his first time clocking 200+ kph on the Virtus and further adds that the car felt stable and was able to hold its speed comfortably along turns. He says ‘In the corners also, it (the Virtus) is holding its line, at 160’.

At some point in time, we see a Red Volkswagen Polo GT TSI overtake the Virtus, while it was still doing 118kph. The hatchback may have been doing 120-ish kph then. Later, we see the owner trying to ‘follow’ a Lamborghini with the Virtus. Both vehicles are seen doing 150+ kph speeds.

Road Patrolling Officer Karingula Sairam filed a complaint against Reddy on May 19th, for the high-speed run. Based on the cop’s complaint, the police department registered a case under sections 125 and 281 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

These penalises rash or negligent act(s) that endangers human life or personal safety of others, and rash driving/riding respectively. A detailed investigation was soon launched.

The Virtus did not have a registration plate or FASTag at the time when the unsafe act was performed. It just had temporary registration plates that read ‘TGTR2026’.

The police used technical evidence and social media to track down the car, identify the owner and detain the accused. During questioning, Reddy said that he had purchased the sedan in April this year and did the high-speed run to ‘test the car’s performance’.

It is alarming how people tend to completely ignore the fact that such ‘testing’ should be done in controlled environments (like test tracks or race tracks) and not on public roads, amid traffic.

The police department has seized the vehicle and said that strict action would be taken against anyone who attempts such things on public roads, in the future.
