Automobile Desk: To strengthen its hold in the Indian automobile market, German car manufacturer Volkswagen has prepared a master plan. To increase the challenge to the big companies like Tata Motors and Hyundai which are already ruling the domestic market, the company is preparing to launch two new vehicles in India. This includes a new facelift model of the company's popular sedan Virtus and an all-new sub-4-meter (smaller than 4 meters) compact SUV.
The look of Virtus facelift will be new and stylish
Volkswagen is soon going to launch the facelift version of its sedan Virtus in the Indian market. According to reports, it can be launched around the festive season of 2026 i.e. Diwali. Many major cosmetic changes will be seen in the exterior of the car. Talking about the front profile, it will get a newly designed grille, updated headlamps and re-profiled bumper. A new taillight setup and new alloy wheels can be seen in the rear profile, which will give it a more sporty look on the road.
Luxury and modern features will be available in the cabin.
The interior of the new Virtus will be more premium and tech-loaded than before. A 10.25-inch fully digital driver display and a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment screen can be found on the dashboard. Rear seat massage feature is likely to be added for rear passengers to make long journeys comfortable. Apart from this, useful features like front parking sensors can also be provided to make parking easier in tight spaces.
Engine and Transmission: Major change in gearbox
In engine options, the company can retain the existing powertrain only. It will continue to have the option of 1.0-litre 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine (115 HP) and more powerful 1.5-litre 4-cylinder turbo petrol engine (150 HP). However, the biggest change will be in the gearbox of its 1.0-litre engine, where the existing 6-speed automatic can be replaced with a new 8-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.
Entry-level compact SUV will come in 2027
After Virtus, Volkswagen is going to make a comeback in India's largest sub-4-meter SUV segment. The company can launch its brand new compact SUV in the market by the first half of 2027. This new model will be based on the platform of Skoda's upcoming 'Kylaq', but its exterior and interior will be completely designed in Volkswagen's signature styling.
There will be direct competition between Nexon and Brezza
This new SUV from Volkswagen will directly challenge Tata Nexon, Maruti Brezza, Hyundai Venue and Kia Sonet. It is expected to get a 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine, which will generate 115 horsepower and 178 Nm of torque. For transmission, a combination of 6-speed manual and 8-speed torque converter automatic gearbox can be given in it.
