5:34 pm: The Warriors are filling their final roster spot with free agent forward Georges Niang. He’s agreed to a one-year, $3.9MM veteran’s minimum contract, Shams Charania of ESPN tweets.
NBA insider Jake Fischer previously reported the Warriors’ interest in Niang, a career 39.9% shooter from beyond the arc over the course of nine years in the NBA.
Golden State is essentially taking a flyer on Niang with the hope he can provide depth at the power forward spot. The Warriors were in the market for another big man who can stretch the floor after losing Quinten Post in free agency to Memphis.
Niang didn’t play at all last season due largely to a foot injury that he suffered prior to training camp last September. While the 33-year-old has never played for Golden State, he had a stint with the Warriors’ G League affiliate in 2017/18.
Niang has been a career backup since entering the league in 2016 with Indiana. He’s only started 32 of 544 games but he received steady minutes until the foot injury, appearing in at least 72 games for five consecutive campaigns prior to last season. He posted a career-high 9.9 points per game while playing a combined 79 games in 2024/25 with Cleveland and Atlanta. He shot 46.1% overall and 40.6% on 3-point tries.
Golden State had a busy Tuesday, as it also agreed to a one-year deal with point guard Brandon Williams.
