Weather of July 11: IMD issues alert of heavy rain and strong winds in many states
New Delhi: Monsoon has once again intensified across the country on Saturday. According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), there may be heavy to very heavy rain in many areas from north to south on July 11. There is also a warning of strong winds at a speed of 30 to 50 kilometers per hour and lightning at some places.
North India: Orange alert in Himachal, Uttarakhand and UP
There will be light to moderate rain in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, UP and Rajasthan. There is a possibility of very heavy rain at isolated places in Uttarakhand, Himachal and Eastern UP. The situation is worse in Himachal.
Due to continuous rain, all schools, colleges and Anganwadis of Sirmaur and Solan remained closed on Friday. Two people were injured in a moving car when stones fell from a hill in Arki. Due to falling of rocks at many places on Kalka-Shimla highway, traffic was reduced to one lane. The Meteorological Department has issued an alert of landslides and flash floods.
IMD has also given orange alert in Uttar Pradesh. In the last 24 hours, 315 mm of rain was recorded in Mawana of Meerut, 270 mm in Jansath and 213 mm in Muzaffarnagar. CM Yogi has asked the officials to visit the affected areas and assess the loss within 24 hours and give compensation.
There is orange alert for 7 districts of Uttarakhand including Dehradun. Schools are closed till class 12th in many districts. An 18-year-old teenager died due to drowning in the rainy river in Bhagwanpur, Haridwar. 2 people injured due to falling tree in Nainital. 118 roads including Yamunotri Highway are closed.
Central, Eastern and Northeast India: Rivers in spate
Rain will continue in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Vidarbha, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Sikkim and Odisha. There may be heavy rain at some places in Bihar, Bengal and Sikkim.
There are chances of heavy rains in Arunachal, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura. Due to thunderstorms and strong winds, the water level of rivers can rise and flood low-lying areas.
West and South India: Caution in coastal areas
Light to moderate rain will occur over Goa, Gujarat, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, Coastal Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Andhra, Rayalaseema and Interior Karnataka. Heavy rain is also possible at some places. There may be high waves in the sea along with strong winds in coastal areas. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea. The Meteorological Department has asked people to be alert regarding lightning and waterlogging in many parts of the country.
