Weather of June 23: Alert of heavy rain, thunder and strong winds in many states on Tuesday.
New Delhi: According to India Meteorological Department, monsoon will be active across the country on Tuesday, June 23. There is a possibility of heavy rain, lightning and strong winds in many parts from Northeast to South and West. Heavy to very heavy rain may occur in some areas.
Heavy rains in Northeast and Eastern India
Light to moderate rain will occur at many places in Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura. Heavy to very heavy rain is expected in some districts. Rain will continue in Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim also.
In eastern and central India, strong winds along with thunderstorms may occur in Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar, Chhattisgarh and East Madhya Pradesh. Farmers are expected to get relief from the activation of monsoon. Whereas humidity and heat may persist in some parts of eastern Uttar Pradesh. Heat wave-like conditions may also occur at some places.
Chance of heavy rain in Maharashtra, Goa, Gujarat
Monsoon will gain strength in western and southern India. There will be widespread rainfall over Maharashtra, Goa, South Gujarat, Karnataka, Kerala, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Heavy rain may occur in many areas of the west coast. Rainfall will be heavy in the southern districts of Gujarat, while the northern parts may remain relatively dry.
Light to moderate rain and strong winds are expected in Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Jammu and Kashmir. There will be a slight drop in temperature due to the effect of western disturbance and monsoon.
Traffic disrupted due to snowfall in Himachal
Dalhousie-Lakkamandi-Khajjiar road remained closed for about two hours due to sudden snowfall in Chamba district on Monday. Many tourists’ vehicles got stuck in the jam. However, tourists seemed happy to see snowfall in June. PWD cleared the road with the help of machines and restored traffic.
Shimla Meteorological Center has issued a yellow alert for rain with thunder and lightning and strong winds at the speed of 30 to 40 km per hour in Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, Mandi and Shimla for the next four days.
Alert in Arunachal and Kashmir also
There is a possibility of heavy rain and lightning in Arunachal Pradesh from Tuesday. Heavy rain may occur in districts like West Kameng, Papum Pare, West Siang, Lohit and Namsai. The weather will remain bad on Wednesday and Thursday also.
Heavy rain and hailstorm in Kashmir on Monday caused waterlogging in many areas including Srinagar. A drop in temperature was recorded. The administration has started the drainage work. People are advised to be cautious in bad weather and stay away from trees and electric poles.
