New Delhi: The horrific murder of a promising young man from Delhi before his marriage has shocked the entire city. 31-year-old Yuvraj Singh Manchanda, who left home on the evening of September 6, had told his family that he would return by 10 pm, but after that only messages kept coming from his phone. The family thought he was busy with some important work, whereas in reality he had already been murdered. Now such revelations are being made one after the other in this matter, which are giving goosebumps.
Yuvraj Singh Manchanda, who lives with his family in Sarita Vihar, Delhi, was working as a project manager in Adani Realty. On the afternoon of 6th September, he had gone with his sisters for shopping in the Central Market of Lajpat Nagar. She was going to get married in October, during this time she had also finalized the sherwani for her wedding. After this the whole family went to a restaurant in Lajpat Nagar, where at around 4 o'clock Yuvraj told that he had to go for an important meeting in Gurugram and he would return by night. The family spoke to him for the last time on phone at around 7 pm, but after that his phone got switched off.
The phone was switched off, yet messages kept coming.
The most mysterious link in this entire matter is Yuvraj's mobile phone. According to the family, despite not returning home on the night of September 6, messages kept coming from his number for the next two days, due to which the family felt that he was busy with some work. But now police investigation has revealed that these messages were not sent by Yuvraj himself, but by the accused from his phone. After September 8, this phone got completely switched off.
Meet in Gurugram and everything is over
Police investigation revealed that the meeting for which Yuvraj had gone to Gurugram was with his former colleague Anya Vats. The two previously worked together in the same real estate company and had a professional relationship between 2019 and 2022. Yuvraj later joined another company, while Anya was fired from her job due to alleged financial irregularities. After this Anya and her partner Sanyam Sachdeva started freelance work and property dealing.
Dispute in car, then murder
According to the police, Anya had called Yuvraj to meet her near Sector 70 of Gurugram. Yuvraj reached there in his car and then boarded Anya and Sanyam's car. During this time, there was a heated dispute between them over some issue, and according to police investigation, Yuvraj was murdered after this dispute. But the further story is even more shocking. The initial statement of the accused said that the body was kept in the car for about 7 hours, but later their statements changed and according to the police, the body remained in the car for about two days.
The accused kept roaming around with the dead body?
Police believe that after the murder the accused were not able to dispose of the body immediately. During the investigation, efforts are being made to find out where the car went during this period. It is believed that the accused parked the car containing the dead body somewhere and roamed around in the auto-cab at different places, later returning back to the car. The accused told during interrogation that after visiting several places in Gurugram, they searched for a suitable place to dispose the body and finally threw it in a drain in Badshahpur area on September 8. After this Anya and Sanyam fled straight to Uttarakhand.
Unidentified body found in drain turns out to be Yuvraj's
On September 10, Badshahpur police found a badly decomposed unidentified body in a drain in Gurugram, which could not be immediately identified. Police conducted post-mortem and registered the body as unidentified. On the other hand, when Yuvraj did not return home for several days and could not be contacted, his sister lodged a missing report at Lajpat Nagar police station on September 11. After this, Delhi Police started investigation with the help of call details, internet data and CCTV, which revealed that Yuvraj's last conversation was with Anya Vats.
Arrest made from Uttarakhand
After finding Anya's phone switched off, the police found a new mobile number, whose location was traced to Uttarakhand. Delhi Police team reached there and arrested Anya Vats and Sanyam Sachdeva. Both were produced in the court, where they were sent to five-day police custody. During interrogation, the accused confessed to the murder and throwing the body in the drain, after which it was linked to the unidentified body found on September 10. But by then it was too late, because the Gurugram Police had already performed the last rites of the unidentified body. He was later identified as Yuvraj based on his clothing and physical description.
Death due to drowning, many questions raised
In the post mortem report, the cause of death of Yuvraj has been stated to be suffocation due to drowning, which has further complicated the case. It is not clear whether he died by drowning in the drain water, or whether he was alive while lying in the car for two days. Answers to these questions will be available only through forensic investigation.
The police is now also investigating the financial dispute behind this murder. Initially there was a dispute of Rs 5 lakh, which later increased to Rs 25 lakh. Some reports have also revealed that Yuvraj had lent money to Anya and demanded return. According to the police, two fraud cases are already registered against the accused Anya Vats, while Sanyam Sachdeva has been accused of domestic violence by his wife.
The family got the truth after 6 days
The saddest thing is that Yuvraj's family was searching for him since September 6, but they got the information on September 16 that the unidentified body found by Gurugram Police on September 10 was that of their son. That is, by the time the family was searching for him alive, his last rites had already taken place. The family alleges that they were neither shown the body nor were they contacted before the funeral.
Questions were also raised regarding ZIPNET
In this case, questions have also been raised regarding ZIPNET, the police network that shares information about missing and unidentified bodies. Delhi Police had uploaded Yuvraj's information on ZIPNET on September 12, while Gurugram Police had already found the unidentified body on September 10. A Delhi Police official says that if the matching had happened at the right time, identification could have happened earlier. Gurugram Police says that they had checked ZIPNET at that time but no matching entry was found.
Dispute over ashes and goods also
Yuvraj's sister Karishma alleges that when she came to know the truth and reached Gurugram, she faced difficulty in collecting her brother's belongings. The family says they were told that clothes were given to the needy and even ashes were not provided. However, police say that all the necessary materials and forensic evidence have been kept safe.

Many questions still remain part of the investigation in this case, answers to which are yet to come. Police say that a thorough investigation of the case is going on and more important revelations may be made in the coming days.
