Rashi Singh became a model due to alopecia: turned baldness into strength

There is no doubt that the beauty of women is judged more by their beautiful hair than by their body figure. It is not only difficult but impossible to imagine women with baldness. Yes, it is a different matter that even today some widows do not keep long hair after the death of their husband. Women suffering from cancer also have to compromise with their beautiful hair after going through a stage of treatment. It is clear from this that women themselves consider themselves incomplete without hair, whether it is long or short, thick or thin. But have hair. At the same time, some women have to accept the beauty without hair because there are many reasons behind it. Time Now also tells a special story of 26 year old Rashi Singh. Who is from Kerala, when one day Rashi picked up the razor and completely removed her remaining hair.

Why did you take such a step?

Rashi’s decision to do this was not one taken out of desperation. This was a deliberate step taken. To accept oneself and get out of the tight circle of society’s taunts about beauty. Till a year ago, Rashi’s life was absolutely normal. Jobs in Bengaluru after college graduation in 2021. Then suddenly in 2022 hair loss started. Initially he ignored it, but when his mother noticed bald spots on his head, the truth came out that it was alopecia areata, an autoimmune disease. Within a few months, more than half of his hair fell out. The mirror became the enemy, tried to hide it with scarves, buns, wigs in every way, but nothing seemed right. Confidence broken. She left her job and started living at home.

The story took a turn again

During her trip to Kerala, Rashi met a girl who had shaved her head of her own free will. That moment awakened something, Rashi did the same. After returning, he posted a normal selfie on Instagram and shared his story. The reaction was unexpected. People were praising Rashi’s courage. ‘You are looking very good’, ‘Very inspiring’. These comments changed his thinking. The thing that she considered her biggest flaw, became her biggest strength. Rashi says, ‘I thought people would make fun of me, but instead I got courage.’ He left the scarf forever. Initially she had to face staring eyes, but as she became comfortable with herself, the world also started feeling her energy.

New chapter of modeling

After gaining confidence with the bald look, Rashi did something she had never thought of before. Applied for Femina Miss India. Her look was especially noticed among the experienced contestants on the stage. People were asking ‘Are you already a model?’ Although she did not reach the final stage, this journey opened many doors for her. Shantanu and Nikhil’s team at Lakme Fashion Week specifically chose him because of his bald look. The same beauty industry which she was afraid of, was now accepting her in her true form. Today Rashi works as an architect in Bhopal, as well as modeling. Yoga has become an important part of his life. By taking teacher training in Rishikesh, he strengthened not only his body but also his mind. Steven Chandler’s book Reinventing Yourself influenced him a lot, especially the message of taking responsibility for one’s life instead of becoming a victim.

Now she has become the light of others

Rashi is now an inspiration for thousands of girls and women who are struggling with alopecia. He gets messages every day. A schoolgirl writes every day, ‘Sister, I want to be like you.’ She says, ‘I myself did not find any role model. Today I am standing at the same place where any girl can see that baldness is not something to hide. You can accept it, keep it clean and live freely.
