What is the track record of Team India’s new T20 captain Shreyas Iyer? look at the statistics
There has been a big change in the leadership of the Indian T20 team. Suryakumar Yadav has been dropped from the team and Shreyas Iyer has been made the new captain. Tilak Verma has been given the vice-captaincy in place of Akshar Patel. Surya had recently made Team India the T20 World Cup champion but due to poor form, he lost his place in the team along with the captaincy.
Surya, who is 35 years old, was struggling with poor form since last year. In the T20 World Cup, he could score only 242 runs in 9 innings at an average of 136.72. After this, Surya also flopped in IPL 2026, where he could add only 270 runs in 13 innings at a strike rate of 147.54, due to which the selection committee headed by Ajit Agarkar took a tough decision on him looking towards the future.
Shreyas played his last T20 International match in December 2023. After being out for two and a half years due to team combination, he has now been directly entered into the Indian T20 team as captain. In such a situation, let us know that Shreyas has done this under captaincy, due to which he has been given the command of Team India in the shortest format of international cricket.

- DC – Won 23 out of 41 matches (Win Percentage – 56)

Have made Mumbai SMAT champion
Shreyas has an excellent record as a T20 captain not only in IPL but also in Indian domestic cricket. He led Mumbai to the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) title in 2024. Shreyas has captained Mumbai in 13 T20 matches, in which he has led the team to victory in 11 matches. During this period his win percentage has been 85.
What is the situation in other formats?
Right-handed batsman Shreyas has captained in 45 List-A matches, in which he has won 32 matches. His win percentage in 50 over format is 71. He has the experience of leading India-A, India-B and Mumbai in this format. Shreyas has not yet taken charge of Mumbai in first class cricket. He has definitely got a chance to lead India-A and India-D. However, he has not been that successful as a captain in red ball cricket. He has been able to win only 3 out of 8 matches.
