New Delhi: Security arrangements have been tightened in the capital regarding the BRICS Summit to be held in Delhi on 12 and 13 September. In view of the movement of foreign guests, traffic will be diverted on many major roads and at some places traffic may also be stopped for some time. Between 11th and 13th September, there will be separate arrangements regarding schools and many major tourist places. However, this does not mean that entire Delhi will remain closed. In such a situation, it is important for people going to Delhi these days to know which services will be affected and which will operate normally.
Due to BRICS Summit, traffic restrictions and diversions will be implemented in some parts of Delhi. During VIP movement, normal vehicles can be stopped on some roads and sent through other routes. Especially there will be more vigilance on the routes between Bharat Mandapam and the hotels where foreign guests stay. Therefore, those traveling on these dates must check their route before leaving home.
Will Delhi Metro stations remain closed?
There is news of relief for the passengers regarding Delhi Metro. According to the official information of Delhi Metro, all metro stations will remain open and metro services will continue to run normally. In case of any change, passengers have been advised to check updates on DMRC website, social media platforms and Delhi Metro Sarathi app. However, the Delhi Metro Museum located inside the Supreme Court Metro station will remain closed. This museum will remain closed for the general public from 11 to 13 September 2026. It has a weekly holiday on 14th September, hence the museum will be reopened from 15th September.
There will be holidays in schools
Due to BRICS Summit, there will be holiday in all schools of Delhi on 11th September. The Directorate of Education had issued a circular in this regard on September 5. Under the order, government, government aided and recognized private schools will remain closed. There will be a holiday on September 11 in the offices under the Directorate of Education.
Which places will remain closed?
Rashtrapati Bhavan, Rashtrapati Bhavan Museum and Amrit Udyan will remain closed for the general public between 11 and 13 September. Apart from this, Delhi Metro Museum located at Supreme Court Metro Station will also not open during these three days. Normal activities may also be affected at some public places around Bharat Mandapam due to security reasons.
What will happen to markets and malls?
Till now no official order has come to close all the markets or malls of Delhi. However, markets located along restricted or diverted routes may be difficult to reach. In some places, business may also be affected depending on the local situation. Therefore, it would be better to avoid going to these areas unless necessary.
DTC buses will also be affected
There will be changes in DTC bus services where bus stands or bus routes are related to restricted roads. Some buses will be sent on alternative routes, while normal service will not be available at some places. In such a situation, those traveling by bus should know their route in advance.
More than 100 trains affected
The impact of BRICS Summit will also be seen on railway operations. Between September 11 and 13, changes have been made in the operation of more than 100 trains connected to New Delhi Railway Station. Some trains have been cancelled, some diverted and some short-terminated or short-originated. Passengers must check the latest status of their train before going to the station.
Traffic diversion on route 22
According to Delhi Police, about 22 major routes will be affected during the summit. Nine hotels have been earmarked for foreign guests and security arrangements have been made on the routes from these hotels to Bharat Mandapam. The traffic police has created 22 diversion points, where vehicles will be diverted to other routes if needed.
There will be traffic restrictions on many roads including Mathura Road and Bhairon Marg around Bharat Mandapam. The major roads affected include Sardar Patel Marg, Mother Teresa Crescent, Teen Murti Marg, Akbar Road, Tej January Marg, Rajesh Pilot Marg, Subramaniam Bharati Marg, Mathura Road, Motilal Nehru Marg, Dr. Zakir Hussain Road, Janpath, Ashoka Road, Barakhamba Road, Tolstoy Marg, Niti Marg, APJ Abdul Kalam Road and Press Enclave Road. Traffic situation may also change on many other major roads including Lal Bahadur Shastri Marg.
