LG is a massive international company with a huge number of production facilities, and as such, most of its appliances are made in-house. It manufactures a wide range of appliances, from kitchen essentials like refrigerators and ovens to laundry staples like washers and dryers. It’s recently moved to diversify its appliance portfolio by taking a largely design-forward tack, in the form of its Studio and Signature lines.
The primary difference between the two is on the detail and marketing side. Signature appliances are meant to blend smoothly into their environment, aimed at homeowners who are looking for a seamless presentation where the appliances feel like a natural extension of the rest of a room’s aesthetic. Signature appliances are LG’s flagship luxury products, and incorporate top finishes and advanced technology, with a steep price point to match.
Studio appliances take a very different aesthetic tack. Instead of fading into the background, they’re intended to stand out. While they may be designed to fit a room’s vibes, they’re meant to expand and enhance it, and even serve as a way for buyers to express something about their personal taste in a visual, eye-catching way. Studio pieces are aimed at consumers who want a coordinated, modern kitchen without stepping into ultra‑luxury pricing.
The technology gap
LG may no longer be Consumer Reports’ most reliable appliance brand, but the company hasn’t slowed its pace of innovation. On the tech side, Signature appliances typically pack more advanced functionality than their Studio counterparts. The Signature line incorporates more AI features than Studio, like AI Gourmet, which uses a camera to identify a dish and then automatically selects cooking settings. There’s also AI Browning, which keeps an eye on your bread and notifies you via an app when it reaches your chosen level of doneness.
Signature refrigerators include T‑OLED InstaView panels capable of displaying custom visuals, and also offer ThinQ Food management that can recognize individual ingredients and suggest recipes based on them. Premium conveniences like doors that auto-open when you touch them with your foot round out the Signature tech suite.
Studio appliances, meanwhile, offer strong base functionality (some are designed to eliminate common problems with LG refrigerators) without going hard on smart features. There are InstaView and door‑in‑door fridge models or those that incorporate superior door cooling. On the range side, select models offer convection and air‑fry options. Additionally, appliances like QuadWash Pro dishwashers make use of four sprayer arms (instead of the two in most dishwashers), and add extra pressure compared to base Quadwash, plus “microbubble” technology, which soaks dishes with tiny bubbles to help break up food residue. Between LG Signature and LG Studio, there’s something for everyone.
