Importance of Govardhan Puja
This festival is celebrated because of a leela of Lord Krishna. According to religious stories, people living in Braj used to worship Lord Indra so that there could be good rains. Meanwhile, Lord Krishna explained to the people that along with nature, mountains and mother cow also have an important contribution in the lives of the people. For this reason, people should also worship mountains and mother cows.
Indra Dev got angry due to this. Then he caused torrential rains in the entire city, which put the lives of people and animals at risk. During this time, Lord Krishna had lifted Govardhan Mountain to save the people from the wrath of Lord Indra. Everyone had stopped at the foot of the mountain.
