India had performed brilliantly in the Women’s Asia Cup 2026 and won the title. The Indian women’s team defeated the Sri Lankan women’s team by 72 runs in the final. However, after this, Indian team captain Harmanpreet Kaur refused to accept the trophy from Asian Cricket Council and Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Mohsin Naqvi. Earlier, after winning the title in Men’s Asia Cup 2025, Suryakumar Yadav did not take the trophy from Mohsin Naqvi. Now BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia has given a big update on the trophy.
What did Saikia say?
BCCI’s annual general meeting was held in Mumbai on 18th September, in which BCCI took many major decisions. The board increased the fees of domestic umpires and match referees and talked about making IPL 2027 grand. After the meeting, Devjit Saikia gave a big statement regarding the trophy. He said that we hope that both the trophies of Asia Cup will definitely come to India one day. I can’t tell you any fixed date. But I assure you that both the trophies will definitely come to India and will reach the BCCI headquarters at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
Let us tell you that Saikia has given this statement at a time when Mohsin Naqvi’s tenure is only for a few months left. Naqvi’s tenure as Chairman of the Asian Cricket Council is ending in April 2027.
We had already told ACC- Saikia
In his conversation, Saikia further said that we had already told the Asian Cricket Council that in the current circumstances the Indian team will not participate in the trophy distribution ceremony. Keeping in mind the sentiments of the country, it would not be appropriate to give the trophy to the team in the proposed manner.
No handshake continues between India and Pakistan
BCCI is strict on Pakistan after the Pahalgam terrorist attack in April 2025. Indian players had decided not to shake hands with Pakistani players in the Men’s Asia Cup 2025. India and Pakistan clashed thrice in this tournament and handshake did not happen all three times. After this, Indian players did not join hands with Pakistani players in the Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 and this trend is still continuing. Now India and Pakistan may face each other in the Asian Games 2026.
