Gaurav Gautam, 40, a director at the Lok Sabha Secretariat, committed suicide by hanging himself in his flat in the Kendriya Vihar-2 Society in Sector 82, Noida. Upon receiving information about the incident, police from Phase-2 police station and a forensic team arrived at the scene and began an investigation. According to reports, the incident came to light when Gaurav Gautam’s wife returned home from her parents’ home.
The door remained open for a long time, and there was no response to his mobile phone. This led them to fear something was amiss. With the help of the society guard, the flat door was opened and Gaurav Gautam was found hanging from the ceiling fan. His family immediately rushed him to the nearest hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Why did he hang himself?
During a search of the apartment, police recovered a 15-page suicide note. Preliminary investigations revealed that Gaurav Gautam blamed himself for his death. He wrote that rising expenses and financial pressure had left him in debt of approximately ₹70 lakh, causing him mental distress. According to police, the suicide note does not make any allegations against anyone else. The contents of the note and other facts are currently being thoroughly investigated.
What did the police station in-charge say?
Phase 2 police station in-charge Raghavendra Singh said that prima facie the case appears to be a suicide. A 15-page suicide note was recovered from the scene, mentioning financial difficulties and a debt of approximately 70 lakh rupees. The family has not yet filed any complaints or allegations against anyone. The police have taken the body into custody and sent it for a post-mortem. Further legal action will be taken based on the post-mortem report and other evidence.
