‘Why should every student become a doctor or engineer?’ Rahul Gandhi questions the education system in Kota
quota: Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi reached Kota, Rajasthan and interacted directly with the students. He raised questions on the country’s education system, increasing pressure on students and limited career options. Rahul clearly said that this program is not completely political, but focuses on the future of the students.
Standing among the students, Rahul said he felt both happy and honored. He reiterated that this is not an election meeting. This evening is only for those youth who are struggling every day to make their career. Rahul said, “I will not speak words like BJP, Congress, politics or elections. Today’s talk will only be on the challenges and daily difficulties faced by you.”
Experience gained from Bharat Jodo Yatra
Rahul Gandhi told the students that during the Bharat Jodo Yatra of thousands of kilometers from Kanyakumari to Kashmir, he met lakhs of youth. Everywhere they asked the same question: What do you want to become in life?
In response, they got only five options almost everywhere. Engineers, Doctors, Lawyers, IAS and Forces. Rahul said that he got upset after seeing this repetition. “I got five answers, but never got the sixth. It is a matter of thought as to why we limit the dreams of crores of students to just five boxes.”
This is the biggest drawback of the education system
According to Rahul Gandhi, the biggest weakness of the Indian education system is that it does not respect the individual interests and abilities of the students. He said that every child has his own strengths, but the system pushes them on fixed paths.
Rahul said, “The biggest shortcoming of our education system is that we do not fulfill the dreams of children. Instead of understanding their choices, we impose our decisions on them.”
He said that there should be more career options in the country than this. Areas like art, design, skill-based jobs, entrepreneurship and research should be given the same importance as medical and engineering.
Focus on students’ challenges
Rahul said that in cities like Kota, lakhs of students live for only one goal for years. Due to this pressure many youth become victims of mental stress. He stressed that the aim of education should not be just to provide jobs, but to give the power to think and understand.
Since the Bharat Jodo Yatra, Rahul has been continuously talking about improving the education system. He says that unless we respect the dreams of children, the real purpose of education will not be achieved.
