Although he did not give any clear answer regarding the future of both the players, but after his statement it became clear that at present the board has not made public any final decision on this issue.
Strategic discussions will not be disclosed
In an interview to PTI, Devjit Saikia said that there is constant discussion about the future of the Indian team, but it is completely a part of the strategic process.
He said, “We have a strong team of experienced experts. There are regular discussions between the cricket committee, selectors, head coach, support staff and the players concerned. But it would not be appropriate to make these strategic discussions public.”
He also clarified that the discussions taking place in the board room cannot be disclosed to the media.
Suspense continues on the future of Rohit and Virat
39-year-old Rohit Sharma and 37-year-old Virat Kohli are now representing India only in ODI cricket. Both players have already retired from Test and T20 international cricket.
Although both have expressed their desire to play the 2027 World Cup on several occasions, chief selector Ajit Agarkar and head coach Gautam Gambhir have not yet given any clear statement on this issue.
Now the latest statement of BCCI Secretary is also being considered to increase this suspense instead of ending it.

Devjit Saikia said that in every major decision related to the Indian team, the opinion of all the concerned parties is taken.
He said that there is regular communication between the cricket committee, selectors, coaching staff and players regarding team selection and future plans and there is no need for any special meeting.

India has already started working on its long-term strategy keeping the 2027 ODI World Cup in mind. For this reason, young players are constantly being given opportunities, while discussions are still going on about the future of experienced players.
