Will TMC split into many pieces, not one or two? Ritabrata Banerjee is telling a different story

Trinamool Congress (TMC), which was out of power after ruling the government for 15 years, seems to be falling apart from Kolkata to Delhi. First, TMC MLAs got divided into two factions in the West Bengal Assembly and then almost the same happened in the Lok Sabha. On the other hand, Abhishek Banerjee and all the TMC leaders are stuck in litigation and are making rounds of courts, tribunals and agencies every day. Meanwhile, it is also being seen that TMC can actually split into many pieces. One faction has called itself a separate TMC while the other has announced merger with the Nationalist Citizens Party of India (NCPI).

It has been almost one and a half months since the Bengal election results came out. In these one and a half months, the party which was in power for one and a half decade seems to be disintegrating. TMC leaders have resigned even from municipal bodies at the local level. Two factions have formed in the Assembly and 20 Lok Sabha MPs have rebelled. Three Rajya Sabha MPs have come closer to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) by resigning. However, after the rebellion in TMC, the rebel leaders are not joining any one faction. What happened during the rebellion between Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and Shiv Sena was that the party was divided into two factions, but many factions are seen forming here.

Some leaders will go with BJP

In the case of Rajya Sabha MPs, it is seen that the leaders who resigned from their membership are clearly with BJP. It is being said that these three leaders can now go to Rajya Sabha on BJP ticket and when the time comes, they will join BJP. These include the names of Sukhendu Shekhar Ray, Sushmita Dev and Prakash Chik Badaik. At the time of their resignation, all three of them definitely took the name of BJP. Sushmita Dev met Assam Chief Minister and senior BJP leader Himanta Biswa Sarma, Sukhendu Shekhar Ray praised the BJP government of West Bengal and Prakash Badaik mentioned the majority won by the BJP.

In such a situation, it is being said about these three leaders that sooner or later they will join BJP and will be seen contesting the upcoming elections on its ticket. By-elections are to be held on the three vacant Rajya Sabha seats and on the basis of numbers, now BJP can make these leaders win on its ticket in West Bengal. This is the reason why the case of these three is safe and they are just waiting for time to pass.

Will TMC divide into many factions?

Amidst the different camps, Ritabrata Banerjee, who has become the leader of opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, is sounding a different note. Ritabrata Banerjee says that the MLAs standing with him will not join NCPI. Now Ritabrata, who claims the support of 64 MLAs, says that the decision to merge with NCPI lies with those MPs but the MLAs have not taken any such decision. Ritabrata has also said that he has not talked to those MPs and he also got the information about the merger from the media only.

He has said about this, ‘As far as MLAs are concerned, there is no question of them joining NCPI.’ Let us tell you that Ritabrata Banerjee has repeatedly said that he is in TMC and he wants Mamata Banerjee to become his guide. However, he has repeatedly rejected the leadership of Abhishek Banerjee.

There was a mistake in the Lok Sabha

TMC MPs are divided into two factions in the Lok Sabha. 20 MPs with Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar and 8 MPs with Abhishek Banerjee. However, it is claimed that some more MPs may join the faction of 20. 20 MPs led by Kakoli Ghosh apparently met BJP leaders, the meeting took place at Bhupendra Yadav’s house and first these leaders said that they are demanding to sit separately in Parliament and they will support NDA only by staying in TMC. However, later they announced their merger with NCPI. Now this matter is with the Speaker of Lok Sabha and he alone has to decide on it.

Legal maneuvers are expected to take place regarding this. TMC is raising questions on this and its argument is that if the parent party is not merging then it should not be considered a merger. At the same time, the rebel MPs are also giving the example of Shiv Sena and NCP along with two-third majority. However, a decision is still to be taken on this matter.
