New Delhi: World number one boxer Meenakshi and experienced Deepak will lead India’s challenge at the World Boxing Cup 2026 (Stage Two) to be held in Guiyang, China from June 15 to 21. This is India’s second-tier team which includes boxers who were runners-up in the Commonwealth Games and Asian Games trials. India is coming into this tournament after a stellar performance in the last World Cup cycle. During that time, the team won many medals consecutively in different stages and also performed well in the finals, which shows its growing status at the global level. Is.
Indian players are at third position in top ranking
The Boxing Federation of India (BFI) has picked a strong team with a good mix of experienced and young talent in both the men’s and women’s categories. India currently ranks third in the world in terms of total number of top 10 ranked players. This includes second place in the women’s category and fourth place in the men’s category. India leads the world in the women’s category in terms of top three ranked players, which reflects its dominance at the elite level. This tournament is an opportunity for Indian boxers to gain the much-needed ranking points and maintain their momentum in the crucial competitive season.
Speaking about the team, BFI President Ajay Singh said, “The World Boxing Cup is an important platform for our players to test themselves against the top international competition. The system and structure we have created are now consistently yielding good results and players are performing brilliantly in all weight categories.
“We are seeing more depth than ever before and this consistency is helping to establish India as one of the premier boxing nations in the world,” he said.
Meenakshi is leading
In the women’s category, Meenakshi (51kg) is leading a strong line-up which also includes Poonam (54kg), Prachi (57kg) and Mahi Lama (60kg). The team is further strengthened by the presence of Sneh (65kg), Geetimony G (70kg), Sanamacha C (75kg), Naina (80kg) and Alfia Tarannum Akram Khan Pathan (+80kg), ensuring strong representation in all weight categories.
Command of men’s team in the hands of Deepak
In the men’s category, Deepak (70 kg) is leading the team. He is getting support from Rishi S (50 kg), Nikhil (55 kg) and Anmol (60 kg). Abhinash Jamwal (65 kg), Malsawamtlunga (80 kg), Jugnu (85 kg), Harsh Chaudhary (90 kg) and Sawan Ji (above 90 kg) provide strength to the team. The team is training in the national camp.
