Big change in WTC rankings: Bangladesh beat Australia to reach fourth place, India pushed to fifth place!

WTC Points Table Update: Bangladesh cricket team has created history by registering a great victory by 9 wickets in the first test match against Australia. This is Bangladesh’s first Test victory against the Kangaroo team on Australian soil. Despite the humiliating defeat, Australia remains intact at the top of the World Test Championship (WTC) points table, but the gap with second-placed South Africa has now narrowed.

After taking a strong first innings lead of 228 runs in the match, Bangladesh bowled out Australia for 284 runs in the second innings. As a result, an easy target of just 57 runs was given for victory. Despite Tanzid Hasan Tamim, who scored a century in the first innings, was dismissed in 5 balls, the tour team successfully achieved this target with the loss of 1 wicket in just 14.2 overs.

Big change to the WTC points table

This historic success has given Bangladesh a huge advantage in the points table of the WTC 2025-27 cycle. Bangladesh now have 40 points and their PCT has improved from 58.33 percent to 66.67 percent, moving them to the fourth position. On the other hand, Australia’s PCT decreased from 87.50 percent to 77.77 percent. Australia, the 2023 WTC champions, have lost 2 out of 9 Test matches in the current cycle and notably both of these defeats have come at home. India is currently pushed to the fifth position with 48.15 percent PCT.

Heading for fifth place

Currently, the first Test match is being played between India and Sri Lanka at Galle. Even if India win this match, their PCT will be 53.33 percent and they will remain at fifth position. If Sri Lanka wins, its PCT will rise to 53.33 percent, leaving India behind. If this match results in a draw, Sri Lanka’s PCT will decrease to 40.00 percent and India’s PCT will increase to 46.66 percent, but there will be no change in the rankings of both teams.
