World’s first Hydrogen Narrow-Gauge Train launched, no smoke, no pollution, just water steam

Italy Hydrogen Train: A major change is about to come in the rail transport sector of the country. Let us tell you that Stadler and ARST have together presented the world’s first narrow-gauge hydrogen train to everyone. This modern train will serve passengers in the Sardinia region of Italy from 2028. Its special thing is that this train will run on hydrogen instead of diesel and during its operation, instead of smoke, only water steam will come out. Due to which the environment is expected to get huge benefits.

Train will run on hydrogen, not electricity

Due to the mountainous and winding terrain of Sardinia, it is not easy to lay overhead power lines there. Keeping this in view, this train has been specially designed for narrow-gauge railways. This train will run on the Alghero Airport to Mamuntanas, Sassari to Alghero and Sassari to Sorso routes. Stadler claims that it is the only company in the world that develops hydrogen trains for narrow-gauge railway lines. This new technology is being considered a big step towards future green transport.

More than 2,100 tons of CO₂ emissions will be reduced every year

For information, let us tell you that 10 such new hydrogen trains will be run in Sardinia. Regarding which the company says that the operation of these trains will reduce more than 2,100 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions every year. Due to which the pollution is considered equivalent to traveling 450 times around the world by car. This will help in making rail transport cleaner and sustainable.

Hydrogen will be made from solar energy

The biggest attraction of this train is its fuel cell based propulsion system. The hydrogen tank and fuel cell installed in the middle compartment of the train convert hydrogen into electricity. Due to which the traction battery is charged and the train runs smoothly even on the line without electricity. The most important thing is that this hydrogen will be produced from 100 percent solar energy. Which simply means that the entire system from energy production to train operation will be based on zero-emissions.

Passengers will get comfortable journey

The new hydrogen train has been made from light material so that it can run easily on narrow-gauge tracks. It has large panoramic windows, air-conditioned coaches, low-floor design and low-noise technology. This train will provide a more comfortable travel experience with less vibration and less sound as compared to diesel trains. In the coming years, this technology can become a green railway model for many countries of the world.
