Yemen: Threat of attack on Saudi airports, rebels angry over stopping Iranian flights
Yemen’s Houthi rebels have threatened to target Saudi Arabia’s airports and critical infrastructure. The dispute began when Saudi Arabia tried to prevent an Iranian passenger plane from landing at Sanaa airport. After this incident, tension has increased in the area and both the sides have come face to face.
what is the whole matter
On July 3, 2026, an Iranian civilian aircraft Mahan Air flight IRM1198 was attempting to land at Sanaa International Airport. Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saria said that at around 5:20 in the morning, Saudi warplanes tried to stop the flight. However, the plane landed successfully and was carrying more than 200 Yemeni civilians, injured people and patients. The plane then left for Tehran, carrying a group of Houthi officials to attend the funeral of Iran’s late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Houthi rebels warn
After this incident, Yahya Sariya has given an open warning to Saudi Arabia. He said that if the Saudi coalition does not stop violating Yemen’s airspace, Houthi forces will launch a major attack on Saudi air bases and their vital targets on land and sea. The Houthis made it clear that flights between Sanaa and Tehran would continue and they were ready to deal with any situation.
Answer of Saudi Arabia and Yemen Council
On the other hand, Saudi coalition spokesman Turki al-Malki issued a statement on July 4 condemning these threats. He said the Houthi rebels are only trying to divert attention so that people forget the atrocities they have committed against the Yemeni people. Al-Malki warned that Saudi Arabia would take strong action to protect its sovereignty.
Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council also held an emergency meeting on 3 July. The council described the Iranian flight as a violation of international law and UN Security Council rules. He appealed to the United Nations not only to condemn but also to take strict measures against Iran.
