Eternal-owned foodtech platform Zomato has reportedly entered the rapid food delivery space with the roll out of vending machines, recently.

These vending machines, called ‘Zomato Now’, are installed in corporate offices in partnership with restaurants in Gurugram, the ET reported citing sources familiar with the matter.

Sources told the publication that it is piloting a few food pods at corporate offices in Gurugram.

With the latest vending-machine experiment, Zomato is taking a new approach. While foodtech platforms largely focus on making the delivery network faster, Zomato is now moving the food closer to the consumer.

Meanwhile, restaurants are protesting against platforms like Zomato and Swiggy on the back of higher promotional fees and other charges. Zomato’s new initiative to partner with restaurants for the vending machine segment could potentially revive its relationship with these players.

App Launched

The development also comes after Zomato has been on a spree of launching several models like Zomato Instant, Everyday and Ritual in recent times.

Zomato, the flagship food delivery business under Eternal, has evolved from the company’s core growth engine into its key profit generator.

While Blinkit contributes nearly five times more revenue, Zomato’s food delivery business generated ₹606 Cr in adjusted EBITDA in Q1 FY27, compared with Blinkit’s ₹102 Cr.

Zomato’s food delivery business continued its steady growth trajectory and raked in an operating profit of ₹621 Cr while its revenue increased 37% YoY to ₹3,100 Cr.

Its profitability is driven by restaurant commissions, platform fees, advertising and subscriptions such as Zomato Gold. Platform fees alone generated ₹154 Cr in Q1 FY27. However, rising delivery, customer acquisition and regulatory costs continue to pose challenges.

As Eternal continues investing heavily in Blinkit and other businesses, Zomato’s mature and increasingly profitable operations provide financial stability.

On the financial front, Eternal reported a consolidated net profit of ₹92 Cr in the first quarter of FY27, up nearly 3.7X from ₹25 Cr in the year-ago quarter. Operating revenue surged 182% YoY to ₹20,211 Cr during the quarter under review.

Shares of Eternal ended today’s trading session flat at ₹327.60 apiece on the BSE.
