Bengal Government Cuts Bakrid Holiday To 1 Day: Now there will be only one day holiday on Bakrid in Bengal, Shubhendu Adhikari changed Mamata Banerjee’s decision.

New Delhi. Now there will be only one day holiday on Bakrid in West Bengal. Subhendu Adhikari’s government has issued an order related to leave by amending the order of the previous Mamata Banerjee government. According to this, there will be a government holiday on Thursday, May 28, 2026 on Eid-ul-Zoha. Earlier, Mamata Banerjee had announced a two-day holiday on Bakrid in her government. Under the Mamata Banerjee government, an order was issued on 27 November 2025 in which Bakrid holiday was declared on 26 and 27 May 2026. Now the BJP government has amended that order and issued a new order.

Let us tell you that the West Bengal government has issued some guidelines regarding the sacrifice of animals on Bakrid. According to which, a cow, buffalo, bull or calf cannot be slaughtered without the necessary fitness certificate. Only those animals which are sick or disabled will be given a certificate for killing. Expressing objection to this, a petition was filed in the Calcutta High Court on behalf of the Muslim side. However, the court has refused to stay the government’s guidelines.

On the other hand, Aam Janata Unnayan Party MLA Humayun Kabir has opposed the government guidelines and challenged Chief Minister Shubhendu Adhikari. Humayun Kabir has said that sacrifice has been happening for centuries and will continue to happen. There will be sacrifice of cow, goat, camel and all the legitimate animals. He said that Subhendu Adhikari should not play with fire. If Shubhendu Adhikari tries to stop the sacrifice, he will be in trouble.
