Will Dara Singh Come Out Of Jail: Will Dara Singh be released?, serving life sentence for the murder of Graham Staines and his two sons

Bhubaneswar. The chances of release of Ravindra Pal Singh alias Dara Singh, who has been imprisoned in Odisha jail for 26 years, seem to be increasing. Dara Singh was sentenced to life imprisonment for burning alive Australian missionary Graham Staines and his two sons. The Odisha government had made a remission policy in the year 2022. Under which the death sentence can be commuted to life imprisonment and the prisoner concerned can be released if he remains in jail for 25 years. The Supreme Court has asked the Odisha government to take a decision on Dara Singh’s remission petition by August 19.

After being imprisoned, Dara Singh did not come out of jail even for a day. His behavior in jail has also been good. In such a situation, there is a lot of hope that Dara Singh will come out of the jail bars. Dara Singh and his associates killed Australian missionary Graham Staines along with his sons Philip, 10, and Timothy, 6, in Manoharpur village in Keonjhar district of Odisha on the intervening night of 22/23 January 1999. In the petition given by Dara Singh for remission of his sentence, he has said that he has spent a long time in jail. He regrets this crime which he committed in a fit of anger in his youth.

Graham Staines had gone with his sons to a jungle camp in Manoharpur in Keonjhar district. A meeting of Christians was taking place there. Alleging religious conversion, a large mob under the leadership of Dara Singh attacked the camp armed with sticks and weapons at night. They burnt alive Staines and his two sons who were sleeping in the jeep. The case of burning to death of Graham Staines and his sons became a topic of discussion all over the world. Concern was raised over the safety of missionaries in India. KR Narayanan, who was the President at that time, condemned this massacre. Keonjhar police arrested 49 people, but Dara Singh was absconding. Then the investigation was handed over to CBI. The Central Government had also formed the Wadhwa Commission to investigate this matter. Dara Singh was arrested on 31 January 2000. 37 people were acquitted by the court in this case. Dara Singh had earlier received death sentence. Odisha High Court had converted it to life imprisonment.
