Lucknow. For the UP Assembly elections 2027, Congress has made it clear how many seats it wants to contest. Congress' UP in-charge Rajendra Pal Gautam has said that under the alliance in UP, his party will not contest elections on less than 150 seats. Rajendra Gautam said that the seat distribution between Congress and allies is expected to be decided in October. Congress and Samajwadi Party had formed an alliance for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, but will Akhilesh Yadav accept the latest demand of Congress?
Rajendra Gautam also said that Congress is preparing to contest elections on all 403 assembly seats of UP. He also has candidates for all these seats. The Congress in-charge said that under the alliance, Congress is entitled to get 50 percent seats. Therefore she will not contest on less than 150 seats. He said that seat sharing is being discussed at the highest level of the Congress. Rajendra Gautam said that Rahul Gandhi, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Priyanka Gandhi, KC Venugopal and he himself is looking into the issue of seat sharing.

Even though Congress is claiming that it will contest elections on at least 150 assembly seats in UP. At the same time, Akhilesh Yadav has made the intention of Samajwadi Party clear in this regard. Akhilesh Yadav had clearly said on the distribution of seats for the UP assembly elections that no party can make claims in the air. The distribution of seats will be done only after seeing the candidate and his ability to win the seat. Congress and Samajwadi Party had fought separately in the 2022 UP Assembly elections. In that election, Samajwadi Party had fielded candidates on 347 seats and won 111 seats. Whereas, Congress contested elections on 399 seats, but only 2 of its candidates could reach UP Assembly by winning. Then in 2024, Samajwadi Party and Congress contested the Lok Sabha seats in UP under the Indi alliance. In this election, Samajwadi Party contested on 62 seats and won 37. Whereas, Congress fielded candidates on 17 seats and could win only 6 seats.
