New Delhi. Shikshamitras of Uttar Pradesh will not be able to appear in Special TET (Teacher Eligibility Test) 2026. Allahabad High Court has rejected this demand of Shikshamitras and rejected their petition. Delivering the verdict, the single bench of Justice Manju Rani Chauhan said that the petitioners cannot claim to appear in the special examination merely because they are eligible to appear in the general TET examination. The court also acknowledged that the legal status of Shikshamitras is different from that of teachers who are currently employed. Earlier, the High Court had reserved its decision on September 24.

This petition was filed before the Allahabad High Court by Wasim Ahmed and 220 others. In fact, the Supreme Court has made it mandatory for all teachers to pass TET (Teacher Eligibility Test) and has also fixed a time limit for it. This order is also applicable to those who were appointed without giving TET and who are currently working. If teachers are not able to pass TET, they will lose their jobs. Uttar Pradesh government had recently conducted TET examination, giving relief to the teachers who did not pass it, Yogi government has decided to conduct special TET.

On the other hand, Shikshamitras are also raising the demand to make their jobs permanent. And when the UP government issued the notification for Special TET, Shikshamitras demanded that they too should be provided an opportunity to appear in this examination. Let us tell you that online application can be made to appear in the special TET examination by visiting the website of Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission. The registration window will be open from 5 September to 4 October 2026.
