Illegal property worth ₹1 crore of drug smuggler destroyed in Jammu and Kashmir
As part of the ongoing crackdown against drug trade in Jammu and Kashmir, Anantnag Police took a major action on Saturday (May 2) and demolished illegal business property worth about ₹ 1 crore of notorious drug smuggler Sajjad Rather. This action was taken in Bijbehra area of the district, where 15 shops related to smugglers were demolished with bulldozers.
According to officials, the property was purchased with money earned from drug trafficking. This action was carried out by a joint team of district administration and police near National Highway-44. The administration says that the aim of such steps is not only to catch smugglers but also to completely destroy their economic network.
According to police records, Sajjad Rather is also named in a case registered in 2017 under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985. The recent action is part of this wider campaign, under which strict action is being taken against people and their properties associated with drug trafficking.
Even before this action, Anantnag police had arrested five drug smugglers. According to the police, Aaqib Nisar Rangraze and Umar Yusuf Mahru were caught by the team of Kokernag police station while carrying narcotics in a vehicle.
Apart from this, Rameez Bashir Bhat was arrested near Mahmudabad Bridge, from where 2.65 grams of heroin-like substance was recovered from him. Whereas, Sabzar Ahmed Sofi and Adil Ahmed Shaikh were arrested from different places Gutligund and Khreti Lavlopora. Police have also seized illegal narcotics from them.
The administration says that such campaigns will be further intensified in the coming times, so that the illegal drug trade can be rooted out. Officials clarified that similar strict action will continue against assets acquired through drug smuggling.
