BJP has crossed the majority mark by winning the West Bengal Assembly elections. After this, violent incidents are coming to light in many areas of the state. Just two days after the election results were declared, Chandranath Rath, personal assistant (PA) of BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari, was shot dead. This incident has created a sensation in the state and the political atmosphere has heated up even before the formation of the new government.
According to the information, Chandranath Rath was shot in Madhyagram (Barasat area) of North 24 Parganas district on Wednesday (6 May) night. He was seriously injured after being shot. Immediately after the incident, with the help of local people, he was taken to the nearby Diversity Nursing Home, but he died on the way.

Trinamool Congress (TMC) workers have been charged in the Chandranath Rath murder case. As soon as information about the incident was received, the police reached the spot and started investigation. Police are scanning the surrounding CCTV footage and searching for the attackers. On Thursday (May 7) morning, the body of Chandranath Rath, personal assistant of BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari, was brought to Barasat Hospital for post-mortem.
On the murder of PA Chandranath Rath, BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari said that it was a pre-planned murder and the DGP has also confirmed the same. Police is investigating. We are deeply saddened and have no words to condemn this incident. The BJP leader further said that the top leadership of the party in Delhi has also taken information about this matter. Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar has spoken to the family of the deceased and police officials. Many leaders and public representatives have reached here from their respective areas. Police have found some evidence and investigation is ongoing.

Who was Chandranath Rath?
Suvendu Adhikari’s personal assistant Chandranath Rath was earlier serving in the Indian Air Force. After taking voluntary retirement, he also worked in the corporate sector for some time. After this he gradually started handling political coordination and administrative responsibilities.
Chandranath Rath joined Suvendu Adhikari’s team in the year 2019, at that time Suvendu Adhikari was a minister in the Mamata Banerjee government. Initially he handled the responsibilities related to the minister’s office and later continued working with Suvendu Adhikari even after he joined BJP.
Like Adhikari’s family, Chandranath Rath’s family was also earlier associated with Trinamool Congress. His mother Hasi Rath held a post in a local panchayat institution of Purba Medinipur during the TMC regime. Later, when Suvendu Adhikari left TMC and joined BJP, Chandranath Rath’s family also joined BJP.
Chandranath Rath was associated with Suvendu Adhikari for nearly two decades. During this period, he handled the organizational work, communication arrangements and contact with party workers. BJP insiders considered him the most trusted aide of Suvendu Adhikari. He was many times involved in sensitive tasks related to election management and political coordination. He was part of the core team in several high-profile political campaigns, including the BJP’s Bhabanipur election campaign.
